About Pete
To know Pete, you must know our Dad, Lawrence V. Whitfield.
Dad loved to hunt and went Deer, Elk and Moose hunting every year into his 80's. His moose hunting area was on the Pigeon Ranch, just north of Clinton B.C. He hunted with the Pigeon's, Roseor, and later his son, Albert. He would go to the ranch and hunt with a guide for a week, getting a moose every year for 36 years staight. The ranch was located East of "The Gang Ranch", one of the largest ranches in North America.
I am sure Pete's name came from the guide that was with Dad when he bagged this moose, Pete. Besides Roseor and Albert Pigeon as guides, there were several Indian guides. Two I remember were brothers, Pete and Augustine. Great hunters and guides.
Dad bagged Pete the moose in 1948 and as I remember, the moose was large, 1200-1500 pounds. Dad had him mounted and Pete the moose has hung in the Whitfield offices ever since. He has been redone twice since than, once in the late 1980's by Joanes Brothers of Seattle, and then in 2006 by Sultan Taxidermist.
